LYING IS A SNARE
“He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known”. Pro. 10:9.
Christians who are true believers should take the truth seriously, avoiding all lies. Yet this fact poses a problem for all of us to a greater or lesser degree, doesn’t it? Lies generally begin with exaggerations, which are then propagated. Let us take care not to get into the habit of exaggerating! Here are four reasons why we should not tolerate lying in our lives.
The Word of God makes it quite clear that we should not lie: “Lie not one to another” (Col. 3:9). One of the ten commandment is: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” (Exo. 20:16).
Lying is often a means of concealing feelings of insecurity. In the end, however, it makes things worse, not better. Think of Abraham and Isaac! (Gen. 12:20 and 26).
Lying gets us nowhere. People lie to protect themselves or cover up their tracks. But God sees to it that the truth always comes to light.
Lying is a snare. One lie leads to another, and in time we forget what lies we have told others. Eventually we get caught in our assertions, which proves very embarrassing for us.
Exaggerating and lying are habits that arise from insecurity and fear. Let us ask Jesus Christ, who is the truth, to help us to speak and live truthfully.
*PRAYER*
O Lord give me a heart of Truth, in Jesus name.
