THE WORD OF LIFE - BY REV. PROF. TITUS ADE MARTINS

TUESDAY 24TH MAY, 2022

STEALING IS A CRIME
“Thou shalt not steal”. (Exo. 20:15).
Many of God’s commandments are brief and to the point. This one tells us clearly that we must not take what belongs to another. It is a crime that is punishable by law practically everywhere.

Many people might now assert: “But I have never taken anyone’s property”. Now God’s commandments involve more than is to be seen at first sight. Admittedly in this detail of the ten commandments it is primarily a question of tangible things that must not be appropriate by others unlawfully. However, there are indisputably, other expensive and highly paid things, like working hours. Here, too, we must not steal. Or what about things that we find in the street or on the beach?

A person’s honour is his inviolable right. And how often have we besmirched it. Maybe without even realizing it! Or what happens in normal business life? It isn’t even regarded as wrong to exploit someone’s inattention or ignorance to obtain an advantage over him. Let us not continue with this list of wrongs! All this comes under God’s law: “Thou shalt not steal”.

“The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth” (2nd Chron. 16:9). He takes note of everything: He doesn’t miss anything.

What a relief it is to know that we need not answer to God for all that we have omitted and committed: Jesus Christ stands surety for all who have put their faith in Him. Can you say this for yourself?

*PRAYER*
O God, deliver me from ignorance and give me the spirit of wisdom and the revelation of your word in Jesus name.
